Arthritis is an inflammation in a joint. It gets worse over time, and may begin as simple morning stiffness and progress to lameness and swollen, painful joints. The good news is that while arthritis is incurable, treatment can make your dog feel a whole lot better.

A food with glucosamine in it will help. You can also give a glucosamine supplement. I give mine the Synovie G3. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=synovie+g3

You can get a 240 count tub of it at Amazon.com for about 50.00.

You can also give a dog aspirin. (Not Tylenol or Advil).

This page has the dosage to give:

Rather than just depending upon food, your vet can most likely prescribe something to make your dog much more comfortable. My vet certainly helped my dog’s quality of life with a prescription.

There isn’t one. The foods that have glucosamine in them, don’t have enough to make a difference and it’s been processed anyway.

Your dog needs a trip to the vet so the vet can tell you if glucosamine chondroitin is enough or if she needs prescription meds to keep her pain free.

A good adult dog food like Wellness CORE, and a joint supplement, like Cosequin which my vet reccomends for older dogs.

Feeding a well balanced diet such as Wellness Core is suitable fo a senior dog.
As fo the arthritis supplementing with SynoviG3 can be beneficial as it is a glucosamine, chondrotin and MSM supplement.
Cosequin is also good but I find dogs truly benefit from the MSM in the SynoviG3 which can be a potent anti inflammatory.

Hills offers J/D which is a diet infused with glucosamine and omega fatty acids.
    Puina offers J/M.

I believe adding supplementation of SynoviG3/Cosequin and Omega fatty acids to a well balanced diet is best for a senior dog versus feeding them a prescription joint supplement diet.
Senior dogs have many nutritional requirements that are more important than glucosamine alone.

A quality supplement is far fom cheap so if its seems too good to be true cost wise it usually is!
The most reasonable trustworthy joint supplement is Arthoplex by thorne which is about 30.00 per bottle.
SynoviG3 is around 100 dollars fo a tub.
It may be costly but most dogs do benefit from the use!

Good Luck to you and your pooch
